Current vacancies: 2x Rangers (1x 40 hours per week, 1x 20 hours per week)

The Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust’s / Te Tautiaki Hoiho work involves the conservation of coastal ecosystems that include yellow-eyed penguin / hoiho breeding habitats. It has protected hoiho habitats along the Otago and Southland coastlines by establishing penguin reserves, providing fencing to protect nests from wandering stock, replanting breeding areas with native trees and shrubs produced at its own nursery (5,000 per annum), managing weeds, trapping predators such as stoats and ferrets, funding research and advocacy, and educating about the need for penguin conservation. The Trust also monitors hoiho during their breeding and moulting seasons, annually October to May.

As a result of new funding, the Trust is seeking to fill two new positions to assist with the above work:

  • Ranger: an emphasis on hoiho recovery programme and assistance with coastal conservation programme (40 hours per week). See full Role Description here.
  • Ranger Technical: involved in the hoiho recovery programme, in particular, working closely with the Trust’s Conservation Science Advisor (20 hours per week). See full Role Description here.

It is essential the applicant has an understanding of conservation and the environment, a high level of physical fitness, a full driver’s licence and is able to work independently or as part of a small team.

  1. 2021 YEPT Ranger Application Form – please ensure all sections are completed and clearly state which position you are seeking. If you are applying for both positions, you will need to demonstrate suitability with the required skill set for both.
